Uncommon CrueltyIt wasn’t until I sat down to write this review that the full significance of the title of the fourth novel in Liz Mistry’s DI Gus McGuire series struck home.

Sadly, I can’t elaborate.

But DO read Uncommon Cruelty and find out.

And, if this multi-layered, multi-voiced crime procedural doesn’t keeping you guessing right to the end, I’ll eat my hat.

The dreadlocked McGuire isn’t a typical copper – he can’t stand the sight of blood for one thing, which is a bit of a handicap when he has Continue reading

A MASSIVE thank you to all the lovely bloggers who supported us during our publication Blog Tour for A Forsaken Friend.

We’ve been thrilled to bits by all your generous comments and the fantastic feedback we’ve received.

Saying thank you doesn’t begin to describe how much we appreciated your reviews, guest posts, Facebook posts and Twitter shares.

Nevertheless, THANK YOU Anne Cater from Random Things Tours for your hard work in co-ordinating everything and MANY THANKS too to the following people who featured us on their blogs during the tour:

Laurie Bell, Adele Blair, Anne Williams, Linda Hill, Sarah Hardy, Susan Corcoran, Jo Barton, Karen Cole, Anne Cater, Rachel Broughton, Ronnie Turner, and Jo Robertson.

THANKS also to Rachel Gilbey, for organising our fantastic cover reveal tour, and, finally, thank you to everyone who liked, shared and retweeted their posts.

Sharon BairdenMy name and website link: Hi all, my name is Sharon and I blog over at chapterinmylife. I blog about crime fiction and psychological thrillers, especially those with a Scottish connection.

I live just outside of Glasgow and books are my passion.

As well as book reviews, I can often be found at crime book festivals, book launches and author events and always write a wee post about them.

I also cover author interviews, I run a feature to coincide with Book Week Scotland every year and I love to post a cover reveal for new books coming out.

My blog name was a little bit random to be honest as I never really intended starting a book blog, my blog was initially going to be some random musings about my life until I thought how dull that would be.  Continue reading

News: An evening with Featherstone Reading Group

Tags

With a surname like Featherstone, there’s one stop-off that had to be a priority during the publication week blog tour for A Forsaken Friend – the former mining town of Featherstone where, in 1893, Winston Churchill allegedly ordered troops to fire on striking miners.

He didn’t: the culprit was a local magistrate but the myth persists.

History aside – it was lovely to be invited to join the lovely ladies of Featherstone reading group and to chat books with them.

Featherstone readers 2

Thank you to Kathy Ryan for the invitation and to everyone else for making me so welcome.

Looking forward to catching up again soon.

And you can find out more about the Featherstone massacre, in which two miners died and six others were injured, here.

Review: haunting cliffhanger ending for Hattie Hastings in new novella from Audrey Davis

Hattie Hastings 2It’s appropriate that the blurb for The Haunting of Hattie Hastings: Part Two comes with a warning: Cliffhangar ending.

Nevertheless, I let out a silent scream when I reached the last page…’Noooooooooooooo’.

Because I really, really, really want to know what happens next to Hattie and co.

NOW!

Thank heavens the final instalment in this delightful trio of novellas by Audrey Davis is due out May/June.

Just in time for the summer holidays and a satisfying sunny afternoon read on the beach.

Because Hattie Hastings is a sunshine read albeit with a slightly bonkers plot – dead Continue reading

Sarah HardyMy name and website link: Hi, I’m Sarah, I’m based in Leeds and I blog at https://bytheletterbookreviews.com/. I read a variety of genres but my firm favourites are crime/psychological thrillers. I mainly post reviews but also do the occasional Q&A as well as guest posts. You can also follow me on Twitter @sarahhardy681 and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Bytheletterbookreviews/

I started blogging in April 2015. I love reading and after joining some online Facebook book groups discovered bloggers – and how important reviews are to authors. I also realised there were many writers whose books you, sadly, don’t see in the shops and I wanted to help shout about them. There are so many great authors Continue reading
