With a surname like Featherstone, there’s one stop-off that had to be a priority during the publication week blog tour for A Forsaken Friend – the former mining town of Featherstone where, in 1893, Winston Churchill allegedly ordered troops to fire on striking miners.
He didn’t: the culprit was a local magistrate but the myth persists.
History aside – it was lovely to be invited to join the lovely ladies of Featherstone reading group and to chat books with them.
Thank you to Kathy Ryan for the invitation and to everyone else for making me so welcome.
Looking forward to catching up again soon.
And you can find out more about the Featherstone massacre, in which two miners died and six others were injured, here.
It was lovely meeting you too
Thank you – had a great evening. Just finished my Nordic Walk with Joyce and Sheila. X
There seems to be an awful lot of chocolate on that table! X
There was – but I didn’t eat any of it. I was strong!
