Rachel AmphlettWhat do scampi and chips, black coffee and a good pair of jeans have in common?

They’re just a few of author Rachel Amphlett’s favourite things.

Amphlett, whose new thriller Hell to Pay, the latest in the Detective Kay Hunter series, will be published on November 16, explains here why she loves a good cup of coffee and always makes a beeline for her favourite seafood dinner when she visits the UK.

My Favourite Things

Animal?  A dog, of course

TV show? I finally caught up with season one of Broadchurch last month, and I’m saving up season three to watch after the launch of Hell to Pay.

Film? Raiders of the Lost Ark. I can watch it over and over, and it still entertains me.

It also taught me a lot about the five act structure in screenwriting when I was studying that a couple of years ago.

Meal? I really miss scampi and chips, because they don’t do either in Australia. Every year when I come back to the UK, I have to have scampi and chips!

Dessert? I’m not really a dessert person, but I do like a black coffee after an evening meal.

Holiday destination? I loved Sintra in Portugal last year, but having just returned from a Canadian trip, I did like the wild west coast of Vancouver Island.

It was amazing seeing black bears in the wild amongst all the autumn colours.

I’d love to go back there and see more of the north coast next time.

Town/city? I’ve always had a soft spot for Oxford, ever since I lived near there when I was playing in bands.

Breakfast cereal? I don’t eat breakfast – I’m more of a brunch person, but I do need a mug of coffee to get me going first thing!

Item of clothing? You can’t go wrong with a good pair of jeans – the older the better, so they’re well-worn in.
